How to Install Fonts & Copy Alternate Characters on iPad/iPhone

If you’re using an iPad or iPhone and having trouble with fonts or access alternate characters in apps like Canva, Procreate, or other compatible design programs, you might need some additional apps to help.

Based on our experience, here are two useful apps:

1. iFont – To Install Fonts on iPad/iPhone
iFont allows you to install custom fonts on your device.
Although it’s mainly a subscription-based app, you can still install fonts for free without a subscription (as far as we know).

2. Unicode Character Viewer – To Access Alternate Characters
This app lets you browse and copy alternate characters beyond the basic alphabet, numbers, and common punctuation.
It’s a one-time purchase (not a subscription), and costs around USD 1.99 or approximately IDR 29,000.

For detailed, step-by-step instructions, check out our full guide below on how to install fonts and access alternate characters on your device.

How to Install Your Font

To install your font, please download the iFont app from the App Store. You can download it without a subscription first.

Step 1: Download and Open iFont

  • Go to the App Store and search for iFont. Install the app on your iPad or iPhone.
  • Open the iFont app then tap the green “+” button and the file icon to import your font.
🔍︎ See in the “Imported Fonts” section at the top right of the screen.
  • Select the font you want to install (e.g., Danielle Harris).
  • Tap “Install”, then follow the on-screen instructions by tapping “Continue”.

Step 2: Install the Font in Your Device Settings

  • Open your device Settings. Then tap “Profile Downloaded” at the top of the Settings menu.
Note: If you don’t see this option, go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
  • Tap Install on the font profile. Enter your device passcode if prompted, then tap Install again at the top right.
  • Tap Done to complete the installation.

Step 3: Go Back to iFont

In iFont, you can view all the glyphs included in a font. However, as far as we know, only standard characters, punctuation, numbers, and multilingual support characters can be copied and pasted into “text fields” in apps like Procreate, Canva, and others.

Return to the iFont app, and your font should now be ready to use.

How to Access Unique Characters & Copy it ?

To access alternate characters such as ligatures, swashes, or stylistic variations in your font, you’ll need to download the Unicode Character Viewer app from the App Store. This app requires a one-time purchase

Step 1: Copy Alternate Characters with Unicode Character Viewer

  • After purchasing and installing Unicode Character Viewer, open the app
  • Tap “Browse Fonts” and search for the font you’ve installed earlier. Tap the font name to open its full character set.
  • Scroll down to find the alternate character (glyph) you want to use.
  • Tap the character, then tap the share icon (an upward arrow in a box) at the top right. Select “Copy” to copy the character.

Step 2: Paste the Character in Your Design App

Open your design app, such as Procreate or Canva. Paste the copied character into a text field. That’s it!

By following these simple steps, you can easily use special characters and ligatures from your iPad/iPhone.
