Using Alternate Characters on CRICUT

Hello Cricut lovers!
This blog is just for you, making it super easy to get those cool alternate characters like swashes, ligatures, and unique characters from our fonts.

As of now, Cricut doesn’t have a built-in way to show and use these alternate characters directly on the canvas page. Similar to Canva and Microsoft Word users, you’ll have to use the “Character Map” or “Font Book” to dive into the treasure trove of characters. Just follow the steps below!

Note: Before you start and open your Cricut’s canvas, please make sure the font is installed on your device.

  • Press the Windows key, type “Character Map,” and open it.
  • Pick the font you want to use. Example: Beauty Culture
  • Choose your font and pick for “Group by” > “Unicode Subrange.” Then, select “Private Use Character” to show the alternate character only.
  • Click “Select,” then “Copy.” Feel free to arrange the words as needed before copying.
Note: By the way, you can type a single character or a few words here and copy them all at once. Feel free to do what works best for you!
  • Open your Cricut Canvas, and click on the “Text” feature. Type any words in the text field (follow the blue line in the picture below).
  • Afterward, type the matching “font name” in your Cricut’s text field. Locate the installed fonts in the “system” section (follow the red line in the image below).
  • Finally, paste the character or word you copied from the Character Map onto the text field. And there you go – all done! (follow the green line in the image below).

  • Open Font Book on your computer, and select your font.
  • Choose the special character or ligature you desire, then copy it.

By following these user-friendly steps, you can seamlessly incorporate special characters and ligatures from our font into your Cricut canvas. Or if you have any difficulties just reach us at admin@letterhend.com.
